EXXON EMPIRE STATE
Built in 1967, by Jacksonville Shipyards of Jacksonville, Florida (hull #647) as the Esso Empire State for Esso Shipping of Wilmington, Delaware.
In 1972 Esso Shipping became Exxon Shipping of Wilmington, Delaware she was renamed as the Exxon Empire State.
In 1988, when Exxon merged with Mobil to form SeaRiver Maritime of Houston, Texas the tug was renamed as the S/R Empire State.
When SeaRiver liquidated their equipment she was acquired by Conoco Phillips of Houston, Texas for service at their Bayway facility in Bayway, New Jersey where she was renamed as the Empire State. She worked performing spot assist and escort work.
In 2006, the tug was then acquired by McAllister Towing and Transportation of New York, New York where she was renamed the McAllister Responder.
She is powered by two Caterpillar 12-D398 Turbo diesel engines with Lufkin reduction gears at a ratio of 7.14:1 for a rated 1,800 horsepower. She is a twin screw tug with kort nozzles and flanking rudders.
Her capacities are 26,670 gallons of fuel oil, 628 gallons of lube oil, and 3,480 gallons of water.
The tug features two fire monitors rated at 1,500 Gallons Per Minute, with a "throw" Range of 220 ft. She has a foam storage capacity of 2,000 gallons, and a nozzle capacity of 1,225 Gallons Per Minute. She was equipped with 2,500(ft) of spill response oil containment boom. Oil Spill Boom, has a nominal draft of 10(in) and a nominal draft of 16(in) and is buoyant up to (lb/ft) 41 lbs. and a tensile Strength of 36,500 lbs. In 2009, the containment boom spool was removed.
