She is the first of the current series of six tankers being constructed in the Yard for the Esso Shipping Company. She is the eleventh tanker of this class delivered for Esso service since 1949. All are 623 feet in length with a beam of eighty-two feet six inches and a depth of forty-two feet six inches. If placed end to end the eleven tankers would extend a distance of more than a mile and a quarter. The Essa Chester was launched on August 3, 1952, and will be delivered on October 10, 1952.
