History: In 1940 the F.J. Wolfe of the Panama Transport Co, Panama was sold to Britain.
Notes on loss:
Between 16.31 and 16.33 hours on 10 Sep, 1942, U-96 fired four torpedoes at four ships in convoy ON-127 and hit three ships:
Elisabeth van Belgie and Sveve sank and F.J. Wolfe was damaged, but was able to continue with the convoy.
On 16 September, the F.J. Wolfe was further damaged in a collision with the British steam merchant Empire Soldier (the former
German Konsul Hendrik Fisser captured by Britain on 22 Nov, 1939) from the same convoy in 47°35N/51°44W. The other ship
sank after the collision, while the tanker arrived at St.Johns the same day.
