Rebuild History
Bow thruster installed by Bay Shipbuilding Co., Sturgeon Bay, WI, in winter, 1970-1971. Converted to derrick barge; redocumented in May, 1980 (169 x 52 x 7.42; 320 gross - 320 net).

History
Scrapping commenced by Jax Steel Co. at Bay Shipbuilding Co. complex, Sturgeon Bay, WI, in autumn, 1975. Removed from documentation in September, 1976, as scrapped. Remainder of hulk sold to Roen Salvage Co., Sturgeon Bay, WI, in 1978. Converted to derrick barge and redocumented in May, 1980. As MERCURY: Collided with ERNEST T. WEIR, May 5, 1964, near mouth of St. Clair River; suffered severe bow damage. No lives lost; MERCURY's steering gear at fault. Damaged rudder at Port Washington, WI; came into Bay Shipbuilding Co., Sturgeon Bay, WI, on October 21, 1972 for repairs. Scraped South Grand Island Bridge in Niagara River on October 11, 1974 during heavy fog; snapped off forward mast, tilted midship mast, and toppled smoke stack. Arrived at G&W Welding, Cleveland, October 21, under own power, for repairs following mishap.
