Stanvac Sumatra - (1949-1962)

"Stanvac Sumatra" was build in 1949 by Bethlehem Sparrows Point Shipyard Inc., Sparrows Point, Md. #4476.
10,201 grt, 16,563 dwt. She was scrapped in 1962, after broken in two.
The tanker was built a few years later than other customary T-3-series tankers, she appears to have been a direct
sistership to the (f.e.) PURE OIL, was built on the same yard (Bethlehem Steel), had the same machinery
equipment and basically exactly identical measurements (length, beam etc.).
She was originally built for her owners and never changed her name.

After part "Stanvac Sumatra" is being towed by legendary Hong Kong steampowered (!) salvage

discharged.

Laying at her last resting place in Singapore, the "Stanvac Sumatra" still held thousands of gallons
of oil in her tanks. The afterpart was scrapped after discharging the remaining cargo in Singapore.
