At 09.44 hours on 16 Feb, 1942, the unescorted Tia Juana (Master George Milbanke) was torpedoed and sunk by
U-502 about 25 miles southwest of Punta Macolla, Venezuela. 17 crew members were lost. The master and eight crew
members were rescued and landed at Maracaibo.
