The tanker Blackwater was built under the U.S. Maritime Commission contract as T2-SE-A1 tanker in September 1944 by Sun Shipbuilding & Dry Dock Company at Chester, Pennsylvania, and became the Imperial Toronto in 1947. In 1958 she went to Standard Tankers of the Bahamas as the Esso Nassau, and in 1960 to Coastwise Tankoil as the Nassau Cay. In 1961 she became the Liberian-flagged Dimitrios for Minerva Maritime and was lengthened and converted to a bulk carrier in 1963 by Cant. Nav. di Taranto, Taranto. Sold to Obo Tanker of Panama in 1975 as the Nicholas C., she was en route Sorel to Basrah with wheat on June 21, 1975, when she experienced boiler trouble about 200 miles from Beira. She later sprang a leak and was abandoned on July 5.
