An example of the post-war development of the T2 tanker, the Imperial Alberta was built for Imperial Oil Shipping Company by Sun Shipbuilding & Dry Dock Company at Chester, Pennsylvania, in April 1949. She was sold to Esso Belgium to become the Esso Belgium in 1955, then to Petrolera Argentina to become the Petromar Buenos Aires in 1961. On February 19, 1961, she collided with the Pennsylvania on the River Parana and was destroyed by fire.
