Located 78 miles (125 kilometers) offshore Brazil in the hydrocarbon-rich Campos Basin, the Roncador oil and gas field spans 27,429 acres (111 square kilometers) and boasts water depths ranging from 4,921 to 6,234 feet (1,500 to 1,900 meters).
Wholly owned and operated by state-run Petrobras, Roncador was discovered by the 1-RJS-436A exploration well in October 1996. A massive find in the Upper Cretaceous formation, the proven reserves on Roncador equal 3.0 Bboe, and total recoveries on the field are estimated at 3.7 Bboe.
Field Development
Due both to its size and the areas' differing densities, the Roncador field was divided into four sections, including Module 1 with 28 to 31 degree API, Module 2 with 18 degree API, Module 3 with 22 degree API, and Module 4 with 18 degree API. Field development on Roncador was divided into multiple phases.
