In October 2003, The "Pacific Notus" was put into service transporting LNG for The Tokyo Electric Power Company
Incorporated (TEPCO). The "Pacific Notus" is owned by Pacific LNG Shipping Limited (PLS), managed by Nihon Yusen Kabusikikaisha (NYK) and chartered to the Pacific LNG Yuso Limited (PLY". "Both PLS and PLY are subsidiary companies of TEPCO. PLY provides LNG transportation service to TEPCO under the contract of affreightment.
TEPCO established these two companies together with Mitsubishi Corporation and NYK on December 21, 2000 and April 20, 2001, respectively. These two TEPCO subsidiaries are expected to reduce LNG transportation costs and increase supply flexibility. Returns from the LNG transportation business is also expected. "Pacific Notus" is the first LNG ship invested by an electric Power company's subsidiary in Japan. (author abst.)
