Keel laid 18-01-1943. Launched 19-05-1943. Completed 14-01-1944. Gr. 10448 t., Net. 6423 t., Dw. 16613 t. L.o.a. 159,57 m., Br. 20,78 m., Dr. 8,99 m. Engine: 2 steam turbines, manufactured by General Electric Company, Lynn, Massachussetts. 10000 B.h.p., 7356 kW. Speed 15 knots. 26 tanks.
History:
Laid down as LACKAWAPEN.
CAHABA-1944 Completed for U.S. War Shipping Administration, San Francisco, USA.
AO-82 CAHABA-1944 Commissioned USS Cahaba (AO-82), 14 January.
AO-82 CAHABA-1946 Decommissioned, 15 May. Transferred to the Maritime Commission, 8 May for lay up in the National Defense Reserve Fleet, James River Group, Lee Hall, VA.
CAHABA-1947 Withdrawn from reserve, 14 October, for lease to American Petroleum Transport Corp.
AO-82 CAHABA-1948 Reacquired by the Navy, 5 March, at Hoboken, N.J. and assigned to the Naval Transportation Service (NTS) and placed in service as Cahaba (AO-82).
T-AO-82 CAHABA-1949 Absorbed into the Military Sea Transportation Service (MSTS) and place in service as USNS Cahaba (T-AO-82), 8 May.
T-AO-82 CAHABA-1956 Placed out of service, 19 June, and laid up in the National Defense Reserve Fleet, Olympia, WA. Group. Custody transferred to the Maritime Administration, 20 January, for lay up in the National Defense Reserve Fleet, Beaumont, TX. Group.
T-AO-82 CAHABA-1959 Struck from the Naval Register. 1 September.
CAHABA-1966 Acquired by the US Army, 11 May, for Project Powerfloat, converted to a floating power station for South Vietnam service at Bender Shipbuilding and Repair Co., Mobile, AL.
CAHABA-1971 Custody returned to the Maritime Administration, 30 August, at Qui Nhon, South Vietnam.

Reported Cahaba sold to shipbreakers in Taiwan. Arrived 30 Aug. 1971 to be broken up. [ By China Tai Steel Ltd., Qui Nhon ]
