The photo of the 4 blade propeller and contra-guide rudder were taken in 1982 at Tampa Ship.
The underway photos were taken in the Indian Ocean in Sept. 1985 while on the last few months of MSC (US NAVY) charter.
The MSC Oiler approaching is the USNS Ponchatoula AO 143. We sent a camera over so the Ponchatoula could get a good view of the SS TT. The quality is at best, fair.
That ship was re-built in 1969, but unlike the American Trader ex Fishers Hill, was a Westinghouse Electric.
The US Navy felt confident that a 40 year old 7240 SHP electric plant with 450 psi BW Boilers was suitable for Fleet Underway Replenishment at 14.5 kts.
