Keel laid 15-10-1943. Launched 29-01-1944. Completed 31-03-1944. Gr. 10448 t., Net. 6423 t., Dw. 16613 t. L.o.a. 159,57 m., Br. 20,78 m., Dr. 8,99 m. Engine: 2 steam turbines, manufactured by General Electric Company, Lynn, Massachussetts. 10000 B.h.p., 7356 kW. Speed 15 knots. 26 Tanks.
History:
MISSION SAN LUIS REY-1944 Delivered to the Maritime Commission, 31 March, for charter to Pacific Tankers, Inc., for operations.
MISSION SAN LUIS REY-1946 Returned to the Maritime Commission, 26 March, for lay up in the National Defense Reserve Fleet, James River Group, Lee Hall, VA.
AO-128 MISSION SAN LUIS REY-1947 Acquired by the Navy, 23 October. Placed in service by the Naval Transportation Service (NTS) as Mission San Luis Rey (AO-128).
T-AO-128 MISSION SAN LUIS REY-1949 Transferred to the Military Sea Transportation Service (MSTS), 1 October, and placed in service as USNS Mission San Luis Rey (T-AO-128).
T-AO-128 MISSION SAN LUIS REY-1955 Placed out of service, 6 May, and returned to the Maritime Administration for lay up in the National Defense Reserve Fleet, Suisun Bay, Benecia, CA. Struck from the Naval Register, 22 June.
T-AO-128 MISSION SAN LUIS REY-1956 Reacquired by the Navy, 22 June and placed in service with MSTS.
T-AO-128 MISSION SAN LUIS REY-1957 Placed out of service, struck from the Naval Register and returned to the Maritime Administration for lay up in the National Defense Reserve Fleet, Beaumont, TX., 19 November.

Reported Mission San Luis Rey sold for scrapping, 7 November 1972 to shipbreakers in USA. Arrived Luria Bros. & Company, Cleveland, Ohio 18 dec 1973 to be broken up.

SS Mission San Luis Rey, T-2 Tanker, hull # 35, keel laid 10/15/43, launched Jan. 29, 1944 Sponsor: Mrs. T. L. Phillips, wife of Western Pacific Railroad Chief engineer; Matron of Honor: Mrs. Ezra W. Decoto of Oakland. In USMC Reserve Fleet in October, 1960. Scrapped 10/72.
