Laid down, 13 November 1943, as SS Norman O. Pedrick, a Maritime Commission type (Z-ET1-S-C3) tanker hull
under Maritime Commission contract (MC hull 1932) at Delta Shipbuilding, New Orleans, LA.
Launched, 7 January 1944
Acquired by the US Navy, and commissioned, USS Stag (IX-128), 17 February 1944, LCDR. Emery A. Winkler USNR in command
Decommissioned, 1 March 1944 at Tampa Shipbuilding Corp., Tampa, FL. for conversion to a water distilling ship,
redesignated Distilling Ship AW-1
Recommissioned, USS Stag (AW-1), 29 July 1944, LCDR. Emery A. Winckler USNR in command During World War II
USS Stag was assigned to the Asiatic-Pacific Theater
Decommissioned, 30 April 1946, at Norfolk, VA.
Struck from the Naval Register, 8 May 1946
Transferred to the Maritime Commission for lay up in the National Defense Reserve Fleet, James River, Lee Hall, VA.
and name reverted to SS Norman O. Pedrick
Final Disposition, sold for scrapping, 1 July 1970, to Aguilar Y. Peris, S.L., Burriana, Spain, for $95,389.00
(PD-X-873 dated 26 May 1970), removed, 10 July 1970
