Esso's latest tanker, the 79,500-ton "Esso Pembrokeshire", has just left on her maiden voyage to the Middle East.
She is the largest tanker ever to be owned by any oil company in the world.
Tankers will get still larger. Not just for the fun of it. Not simply because more oil is needed every year. The reason
- and the aim - is productivity. Productivity means doing more work for less cost. That is what these big ships do.
They bring more oil at a lower cost; they help us to offset rising costs in other sectors of the oil business.
That is one way it has been made possible for the prices of most Esso products to remain so stable for so long.
