Tioga (II) - (1912-1943)

The SS Tioga, 742 tons gross. Built at Grangemouth in 1912, and for many years the largest unit in the Anglo-American Oil Co.'s
coastal fleet. She had a d.w. capacity of  826 tons and measured 179.9 ft. b.p. by 31.1 ft. beam. Triple-expansion machinery gave
her a speed of 9 1/2 knots. Note the towing beam aft.

Measurements: 180 feet length X 31 feet breadth.
Engines: T3cyl (aft).
1.11.1943: In collision near Hartlepool, 55.40N 1.30W with British Steamer Pundit (19/5,305 gt) while on voyage from
Middlesbrough to Grangemouth in ballast. Taken in tow but sank in vertical position, with bows above water, 5 miles
from Longstone Lighthouse.
3.11.1943: Sunk by naval gunfire.
The engine of the Tioga was fitted for the burning of oil fuel, although she used coal throughout her career.
