"Esso Westminster" at the detached mole in Gibraltar, 1965.
I joined a week previously on the Tyne when she was in dry-dock. After sea trials we were on our way
to Sardinia when we found that we were losing too much distilled water and had to stop to re-expand
the boiler tubes into the drums.

Here is a photo of the Esso Westminster, scanned from a Hull Daily Mail insert of Saturday 16th November 1996.
 The caption reads:
The Esso Westminster again, a regular visitor, in the 1960's, when Hull seamen were employed to crew the vessel.
In this photograph, taken on April 7, 1962, two Trinity House cadets are watching the attendant tugs manoevring
the tanker alongsite the jetty at high tide.

 The caption reads:
When the Esso Westminster arrived at Saltend on September 16th 1961 to unload her cargo of oil she was the biggest
tanker to arrive at the port of Hull fully loaded. The 26,704 deadweight ton, 628 ft long tanker, was built in 1954
and was owned by the Esso Petroleum Company, London.

This is a view of the oil jetty at Caripito, Venezuela, in 1965, from the deck of the Esso Westminster. We are up-river
and have just turned round after discharging, ready for departure. The ship at the jetty was a Venezuelan Esso tanker
(I think) about 34000 dwt. ( "Esso Maracaibo", AAV )
