Bargate (Motor barge) - (1916-1925)

Motor tank barge for service in Southampton waters, built 1916 at Chester.
Measurements: 80 Feet length X 17 Feet breadth
Engines: Oil-Aft.
1925 Sold to Risdon Beazly Ltd.
1955 Sold to S.J. Clegg.
1972 Presumed scrapped.
After a fire the "Bargate" was sold in the 1920's, repaired and then used as a sludge carrier, loading at
River Itchen wharf for dumping off the Needless. Her daily run included a call at the A.G.W. 1 jetty
where she took on acid tar waste from the naphta-treating plant for dumping. When this work ended
she was sold and became a workboat, which included pile-driving equipment.
