8 mm movies by Harry Lowry of the maiden voyage of the Esso Ulidia from Harland & Wolff Shipyards to the Persian Gulf
and returning to Rotterdam. The Ulidia experienced an explosion of the coast of Namibia ( formerly German SW Africa ).
The first vessel to render assistance to the badly burned engineer was another Harland and Wolff ship, the Port Nicholson.
The video shows life onboard the Ulidia as work was completed during the maiden voyage. This is the first recorded occurrence
of a helicopter landing on a VLCC. The helicopter landing circle now a standard feature on rigs and VLCC's, was painted just a
few hours before the rescue chopper arrived.
