The third "Sachem" was build in 1974 as "Mobil Marketer" and was renamed as "Sachem" in 1991, in 1999
as "Sacha", in 2003 as "Acha". Scrapped Chittagong 07.06.2003.
Sisterships are "Mobil Refiner" and "Mobil Producer". Owned by Mobil Refining South Africa until 1981, until
Mobil sold SA assets during "Apartheid", 1981.
Mobil Marketer
LOA559' 3 3/4", Beam 85' 01/2", Draught 36' 3 3/4", 30,633 SDWT
Built 1974 by Rauma-Repola Oy, Finland, powered by a Sulzer 6RND76 engine developing 12,000 HP. Delivered to Mobil Shipping and Transportation Company in June 1974, this vessel is capable of segregating 10 grades of clean product.
In 1977, under the command of Captain Keith Beverley, she came upon the 70' cabin-cruiser LOREB adrift in the Indian Ocean on passage from Durban, South Africa, to Mombasa, Kenya. Her engineers helped to overhaul the cruiser's engine and supplied the three-man crew with lubes and fuel, food and drink. LOREB completed her voyage to Mombasa.
In 1984, under the command of Captain Cy Thomas, on passage from Singapore to Bangkok, MOBIL MARKETER rescued 27 Vietnamese boat people. They had been adrift for 17 days and had run out of food and water. Young babies were hauled up the side of the ship in mail bags. All the boat people were safely landed in Bangkok with the help of the United Nations' Commission for Refugees.
Renamed SACHEM in 1991 and in 1999 as SACHA. Sold for scrap in 2003 to Chittagong and renamed as ACHA.
