Mobil Arctic
LOA 283.47 mtr; Beam 40.29 mtr; Draught 16.311 mtr
131,087 SDWT
Built 1972 by Sun Shipbuilding & Dry Dock Company, Chester, Pennsylvania. Powered by a General Electric
steam turbine developing 30.000HP and owned by Mobil Oil Corporation.
She grounded off Farsi Island in the Arabian Gulf on her maiden voyage in September 1972, after loading a part
cargo at Mena al Ahmadi, Kuwait. She was lightened twice by winamac into waneta, before finally being refloated
some eight days later. The vessel proceeded to Bahrain to transfer her remaining cargo to Waneta and undergo a
bottom survey.
Although she grounded while doing 18 knots, the damage was such that repairs were deferred until the next
scheduled dry docking in September 1973.
Sold in 1991 to Arctic Tankers Incorporated and renamed Arctic Hunter.
Sold in 1993 as Arctic for demolision at Alang.

Hi Auke, I ran across your website while doing research about the ships on which my father, Bennie C. Salisbury, served. He served on the Mobil Arctic from it's maiden voyage in 1972 to his last voyage in 1985. He was the Chief Engineer during most of that time.
I'm not exactly sure when I took these photos, maybe early 1980s, when the ship came into San Pedro. That's my Dad in the hat, next to his wife. He was happy to show me the ship. It was an impressive vessel !
My Dad also served on the Mobil Oil in the early 70's as well.
