Mobil 11- (1960-1989)
See also : Socony 11 (2) - (1951-1960)

Built as the "Socony 11" by Avondale Shipyards of New Orleans, Louisiana in October of 1951 for Socony-Vacuum Oil (hull # 357).
She is 100(ft) long with a single deck, curved stem and elliptical stern. She was then acquired by the Mobil Oil Corporation and
renamed the "Mobil 11".
When environmental laws changed and prohibited the transport of petroleum by single screw tugs the "Mobil 11" was sold off
and acquired by Gellatly and renamed the "Christine Gellatly".
Kosnac Floating Derrick, Corporation acquired her and renamed her the "Gotham".
But, in light of a multitude of mechanical issues and she was put up for sale.
In 2005, she was acquired by Vinik Marine of South Amboy, New Jersey where after an extensive mechanical
rebuild she was renamed "Dorothy Elizabeth" and reentered service.
2010 sold for breking up.

R. Michael Kmetz wrote to me :
She is now permanently out of service. In May 2008, while assisting the New York Maritime College Training Ship EMPIRE STATE VI
away from her pier, she suffered a fire in the engine room which caused permanent damage to her machinery. She was able to return
to her yard in New Jersey without a problem but was deemed a total loss by her owners. Her engine was stripped and parts were
either sold, put into storage or disposed off.
R. Michael Kmetz wrote to me again (24 Dec 2010 ):
Sailing past Staten Island on the Raritan River, I saw the Dorothy Elizabeth (Mobil 11, Gotham, Socony 11) beached and awaiting
disposal.
SOLD: Summer 2010 to John Garner Marine Construction of Staten Island, name and company insignia stripped off.
Cutting has already begin on the exterior of the tugboat. She is in the breakers yard.
