Waneta (2) - (1952-1977)

"WANETA", LOA 644' 7", Beam 84', Draught 44' , 29,186DWT, 254,849 bbls
Bethlehem turbines, cross-compound, with Falk reduction gears, developing 12,500 SHP normal
Launched 25 September and commissioned 11 December 1952 at Bethlehem Shipbuilding
Corporation, Quincy, Massachusetts.
This is the second company ship to bear the name WANETA, the first being a British-flag vessel built in 1910
and lost in 1918 through WWI U-boat action.
WANETA was a prominent Sioux chief who won his name "The Charger" by his recklessness in battle during the
War of 1812.
WANETA was a Bethlehem-designed supertanker, with no Socony-Vacuum modifications made in the engine-room or pump-room.
This was due to strong resistance to change by the shipyard, which was trying to get out a standard ship for its own building
convenience. As a result waneta was an "individual". On commissioning, WANETA was put under Panamanian registry and trans-
ferred to the holding ownership of our marine subsidiary Brilliant Transportation Company which changed its name to Mobil
Tankers Co. S.A. in 1956. Ownership was later transferred to Iberian Tankers Company.
In 1964 WANETA had a new forebody built by Mitsubishi which increased her dimensions to LOA 754' 8'', Beam 104'.
She was involved in a collision and siiffered damage in the River Thames as she departed from Coryton, England, on 7 July 1967.
The incident occurred due to interaction when EGYPTIAN PRINCE overtook her.
She was finally delivered to breakers at Kaohsiung, Taiwan, in March 1977.

"Waneta", in Dry-Dock.
