MOBIL DAYLIGHT,
Enlarged by cross type conversion, Outline of the conversion work
1. Elongation
The hull was first bisected at the fore end of the midship bridge, and a newly built 50.4 meter long section was
inserted  between the fore and aft bodies.
The newly built section has a cargo oil tank with permanent water ballast tanks on both sides.
2. Deepening
The hull, except for bow and stern sections as shown in the "General Arrangement After Conversion", was then
cut horizontally at about five meters below the upper deck. The upper parts in two sections, one with the midship bridge
on it, were then jacked up by a new remotecontrolled jack-up device, and belt blocks about three meters high and
a total length of approximately 120 meters were inserted to increase the depth of the vessel.
3. Other Aspects
In addition to the actual enlarging work itself, necessary related conversions were carried out along with
some attempts at improving the vessel's performance.
4. Joining and Welding of Bisected Bodies While Afloat
Following completion of the deepening work, joining and welding of the fore and aft bodies (the latter including
the newly added section) carried out by the afloat method developed by MHI and proved to be highly practical.
