Keel laid 29-02-1944. Launched 07-05-1944. Completed 14-06-1944. Gr. 10448 t., Net. 6423 t., Dw. 16613 t. L.o.a. 159,57 m., Br. 20,78 m., Dr. 8,99 m. Engine: 2 steam turbines, manufactured by General Electric Company, Cleveland, Ohio. 7240 B.h.p., 5401 kW. Speed 16 knots. 26 Tanks.
History:
MISSION CAPISTRANO-1944 Completed for U.S. War Shipping Administration, San Francisco, USA.
MISSION CAPISTRANO-1944 Delivered to Pacific Tankers, Inc, 31 May, at Sausalito, CA.
MISSION CAPISTRANO-1946 Returned to the Maritime Commission, 20 April, for lay up in the National Defense Reserve Fleet, Mobile, AL.
AO-112 MISSION CAPISTRANO-1947 Acquired by the Navy, 17 November. Assigned to the Naval Transportation Service (NOTS), and placed in service as SS Mission Capistrano (AO-112).
T-AO-112 MISSION CAPISTRANO-1949 Absorbed into the Military Sea Transportation Service (MSTS) 1 October and placed in service as USNS Mission Capistrano (T-AO-112).
T-AO-112 MISSION CAPISTRANO-1955 Placed out of service, and struck from the Naval Register, 1 January. Transferred to the Maritime Administration for lay up in the National Defense Reserve Fleet, Beaumont, TX.
T-AO-112 MISSION CAPISTRANO-1956 Reacquired by the Navy, and reassigned to MSTS control, 5 July.
T-AG-162 MISSION CAPISTRANO-1960 Converted at Todd Shipyard, New Orleans, LA., to Miscellaneous Auxiliary Sound Testing Ship). Reclassified (AG-162), 1 July.Placed in service as USNS Mission Capistrano (T-AG-162).
T-AG-162 MISSION CAPISTRANO-1970 Placed out of service and struck from the Naval Register. Transferred to the Maritime Administration, 15 September, for lay up in the National Defense Reserve Fleet, James River Group
CAPISTRANO-1972 U.S. Dept. of Commerce-Maritime Administration. Sold for non-transportation purposes, 10 July 1972, to Boston Metals Co.
