Apart from the steam coasters, there were two sailing ships in the coastal business:
Queen of the Avon
Built in 1856, 162 Gt.
Built by J. Vernon, Newcastle, as Gudrun for Erichson, Copenhagen.
Iron-hulled sailing vessel, rigged as a snow (two-masted, brig-rigged,
with square sails on both masts).
Measurements: 101 feet length X 20 feet breadth.
1900: renamed Queen of the Avon (Anglo-American).
Used in coastwise trade, carrying oil in barrels.
