Report Sea Trials "Mobiloil (IV"
Mobiloil, trial trip  -   -   - 22222

SPEED  -  18 knots at 16,000 shaft horsepower and 103 (normal) rpm.
FUEL CONSUMPTION  -  (under above conditions) approx. 1,000 gal. an hour.
CAPACITY  -  259,335 bbls. (3bl. of petroleum is 42 gals.) Tanker usually is loaded to 98 % capacity.
LOADING TIME  -  8 to 12 hours depending on weight of cargo (light gasoline or heavy oil).
DISCHARGE TIME  -  About 14 hours.
CARGO PUMPS  -  (four) each pumps 4,570 gfl.s a minute at 125 Ibs. discharge pressure. Total of 16,800 gals. a minute.
BOILERS  -  two Foster Wheeler two - drum vertical bank battery set. Oil - fired equipped with steam atomization type burners.
Deliver 53,780 Ibs an hour superheated steam and 7244 Ibs. de - superheated (for auxiliary equipment) or grand normal total of 61,024 Ibs. Maximum possible is 100,000 Ibs. and hour.
Superheater outlet pressrure is 600 p.s.i.g. at 850 degrees Fahr.
Equipped with automatic combustion control for fuel consumption and automatic water feed regulator.
TURBINES  -  "General Electric" cross - compound steam turbines.
High pressure turbine turns at 6538 rpm.
Steam then crosses over from high pressure to low pressure turbine which turns at 3418 rpm.
This reduces through reduction gear to 103 shaft rpm.
EVAPORATORS  -  two low pressure produce 10,000 gals. a day each fresh water.
GENERATORS  -  two Westinghouse run by steam from boilers, 3 phase, 60 cycle, AC and will produce 400 kw an hour.
Run one at a time usually at between 250 and 300 kw an hour.
CRASH STOP  -  From full ahead to full astern in 5 minutes 44 seconds.
Boat traveled 2160 feet before reversing direction.
From full astern to full ahead in 8 minutes 50 seconds.
No figure on how far boat traveled before reversing.
MOORING WINCHES  -  four (bow and stern.
Port and starboard amidships.)
Equipped with constant tension device which keeps chain, taut despite rise or fall of water (which is reason why they are always steamed up when in use.)
